(From Tuesday:)
Just LOOK at what was in my paper this morning:
Do you see that?!
Dengue!
Dengue has arrived in Paris and I have at least five mosquitos bites about my person.
I'm going to die.
Still, at least before I went I discovered the soft sweet delight that is fresh Viennoise bread still warm from the baker in the morning.
Oh AND I had a killer sandwich last night with fresh bread, this beautiful soft, slightly gooey mild creamy cheese with just the right amount of oomphy-flavour! *sigh*
(back in real-ish time:)
Fortunately Mathilde was even more freaked out by this than me and annoyed by the bitey insects so bought a repellent-y thing and since then there have been no problems!
Monday night I came home just shattered and was met at the door by Amel and we stood and chatted for AGES and I completely woke up (and it was at that point in fact that I made my amazing sandwich - Amel showed me how the french make sandwiches: rip out most of the soft filling of the baguette and eat it there and then, as you're starving, and then there's more room for the filling! Simple genius) and then we went off to the Centre Pompidou for the evening and then I had my first Parisian bus ride home!
Tuesday night I made CUPCAKES! In the BEAUTIFUL cupcake cases - thank you DEAREST cousin Joy and darling Mummy for the cases! - I didn't take any photos but they were vanilla and I got dark chocolate which I broke up into small pieces and left as big chocolatey lumps inside and then I made some with vanilla buttercream middles, some with chocolate buttercream middles and I left a couple plain. It was hard work creaming the sugar and butter (Gaby, the German girl here with whom I'm gradually reviving my already rusty creaking deutsch, gave me a hand beating it!) I don't think caster sugar exists here so I had to use granulated but they came out well enough. I shared them round the girls in the kitchen that night (that night was WONDERFUL in fact, there were loads of us crammed in the kitchen and I started sharing the first batch out around 11pm and then at midnight one girl brought out this INSANELY tasty cheese-stuffed-crust bbq pizza!) and then I took the remaining 17 into work the next day and it was EXACTLY enough!
Friday was quite relaxed - we're over a week behind schedule but my boss doesn't seem to be too bothered (he really must be unwell - he's usually very tight about these things!) - and not being there that day he'd left me in charge of making sure the publishers published everything correctly but rather than it just taking the morning they took all day to do it and it still wasn't right so I guess there'll be a lot on Monday!
And so then as yesterday was Friday, true to my solemn vow to try every single crêpe on the menu at La Belle Ronde I sampled the delights of the Braisée and I originally read the description wrong and thought I was going to get goat's cheese, emmental and fondued peppers but in fact it said poireaux, not poivrons and so it was leeks! Anyway, Friday was FREEZING (so I ate indoors) and this was deliciously filling and MIGHTILY tasty:
However, not filling enough (I really was hungry!) and so I ordered this as well:

Lemon and honey -- de-lish!
